Synopsis:

Targeting the practising mental health professional, this symposium with a galaxy of neurology, mental health and interface professionals, will demystify neurology for the mental health professional. Intensely clinical, the symposium addresses how neurological thinking can contribute to diagnostic decision making about behaviour and mental health. The essentials of clinical examination in neurology and neuropsychiatry across the lifespan; psychiatric aspects of neurological disease; clinical examples in neuropsychiatry; the neurological approach to behavioural dysfunction across the lifespan; the utility and interpretation of medical and neurological investigations in psychiatric practice; and the use of neurological treatments in psychiatric disorders will all be addressed. At the end of the symposium the non-neurologist (psychiatrist, psychologist, other mental health professionals) will be conversant with basic clinical skills in neurology and be able to apply them in his/her clinical practice.
